Ground was broken Feb. 25 on Valley Region Elementary School #7 in North Hollywood. The new school will provide overcrowding relief to Arminta, Camellia, Roscoe and Strathern elementary schools. It is part of Los Angeles Unified School District’s $12.6 billion school construction program to build 132 schools by 2012. The program’s goal is to provide a neighborhood school on a traditional calendar for every student, eliminate involuntary busing and create small learning communities in secondary schools. Valley Region Elementary School #7 is scheduled to open for the 2010-2011 school year and will include 800 two-semester seats in 32 classrooms, a library, a multi-purpose room, a food service area and lunch shelter, administration, playfields and underground parking. To date, LAUSD has completed 69 new schools and 59 additions, providing more than 70,000 new classroom seats for students throughout the district.
