Harman Closing Northridge Plant

The closure of a car audio manufacturing facility in Northridge will result in more than 300 people losing their jobs. Harman/Becker Automotive Systems will transfer the operations to other facilities. Of the 325 employees notified of their layoffs, more than 100 are assemblers, 20 engineers, 26 repair assemblers and 24 technicians. The transfers will occur in phases starting in March and will be completed by June 2009. Harman/Becker will provide severance packages and job search assistance for employees who are let go. “Harman regrets that it is compelled to take these actions, but believes the restructuring is an essential step to insure the long-term competitiveness of the business,” the company said in a release.
