Northrop Receives Asian Airline Order

Northrop Grumman Corp. will supply the component providing attitude, airspeed, and altitude for new aircraft used by SilkAir, the Singapore Airlines-owned regional carrier. The equipment is manufactured by Northrop’s Navigation Systems Division based in Woodland Hills. The company will initially equip 12 Airbus A320 aircraft with a set of three inertial reference units. There is an option to equip an additional nine aircraft. The equipment uses technology that provides highly accurate aircraft position. The technology will be essential to new landing systems designed to allow safe and accurate landings in conditions of reduced visibility with little or no ground infrastructure, said Jim Govostes, director of business development at the company’s Navigation Systems Division. “These operational benefits will also lead to additional cost savings for the airlines,” Govostes said.
