Cherokee Branching Out

Brand-management company Cherokee announced that it signed an exclusive agreement to represent a line of skin care products developed by Dr. Susan Evans of Beverly Hills. This marks the first step for Cherokee out of its traditional brand areas of apparel, footwear, fashion accessories and home furnishings. Larry Sass, executive vice president of Van Nuys-based Cherokee, in a prepared statement said the company, “will also focus on opportunities to represent other consumer product industries besides clothing and home brands, including HBA and electronics.” The company also announced it has signed an agreement with British designer Kelly Hoppen although they did not identify specifically what direction that might take. The announcements were made after the close of the market on July 8, a day in which Cherokee’s stock closed near the lowest point of the past year, at $21.85.
