Starbucks locations in Santa Clarita and Simi Valley are among those slated to close as the coffee retailer cuts out underperforming stores throughout the U.S. The Seattle-based company will close a total of 600 stores, many of which opened after 2006 and already located near other stores. The Starbucks at 26503 Golden Valley Rd. in Santa Clarita and the location at 1368 Madera Rd. in Simi Valley were among those listed for closure. About 12,000 workers, or 7 percent of Starbucks’ global work force, will be affected by the closings, which are expected to take place between late July and the middle of 2009, a company spokesperson was quoted by the Associated Press.
