Macy’s Re-Opens After Quake-Related Flooding

The Macy’s store in the Westfield Topanga shopping center re-opened Wednesday morning after sustaining water damage from the previous day’s earthquake. The quake set off the store’s sprinkler system and broke a water main sending water to all three floors. Customers evacuated the store without incident. The store had no damage estimate as the carpeting that got wet was still drying out, said Macy’s spokeswoman Milinda Martin. “We have to wait until we see what residual damage there might be,” Martin said. The 5.4 magnitude earthquake centered near Chino Hills occurred at about 11:42 a.m. on July 29.
