Economy drives more to hold, shop at garage sales

The hunt starts every Saturday morning when Lisa Mortillaro Finn buckles her pajama-clad children into her Volvo and pulls out of the driveway. Finding garage sales is easy. Digging up treasure is difficult. “There are so many nowadays you don’t even need to get the PennySaver or paper to find them,” said Finn, a 36-year-old homemaker from Woodland Hills. “Every other light, there is a sign to turn.” People are turning to garage sales – both to make extra money and stretch their dollars – during a down economy.
