Ceres Starts Plant Trials In Georgia

Ceres Inc. will conduct trials in Georgia with its switchgrass and sorghum plants for use as bio-fuel stock. Thousand Oaks-based Ceres has teamed with Range Fuels Inc. to grow its grass species near the site of a cellulosic ethanol plant under construction near Soperton, Ga. Switchgrass and sorghum provide a flexible and reliable supply of raw materials for fuel and power, said Anna Rath, Ceres vice president of commercial development. “This is an important step in demonstrating that energy crops can be successfully and sustainably grown in the area surrounding the Range Fuels Soperton Plant site,” Rath said.
