The City Council this week reversed a Permit Appeals Panel decision that would have forced the city’s top taxicab operator to cede ground to a competitor , instead granting G & S; Transit Management 50 permits for a period of two years. By a 4 to 1 vote Tuesday, the council approved issuing the permits to the owners of City Cab, effectively shutting out United Taxi of the Southwest, which operates a fleet of 20 hybrid cabs, 15 of which service Bob Hope Airport.
