Northrop Identification System Worth $16 Million Contract

Northrop Grumman received a $16 million contract for five shipboard identification systems for use by the U.S and Australian navies. Deliveries of the five full interrogator sets and nine retrofit kits for installation on current systems begins in February 2010. Northrop’s Navigation Systems Division in Woodland Hills will supply the equipment to be installed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt and the first of the new Gerald R. Ford-class carriers, CVN 78. The friend-or-foe processor system provides a fleet with a long range early warning system for target detection and protects sailors in the fleet by rapidly and accurately identifying an aircraft, said Ike Song, vice president of situational awareness systems at the navigation systems division. More than 90 of these systems have been delivered by Northrop Grumman for the U.S. Navy and for international navies. Mark R. Madler
