State Tourism Commission Opens China Office

The California Travel and Tourism Commission (CTTC) announced Jan. 7 that it has opened an office in China. California is the most popular destination in America for the Chinese. In 2007, 227,000 Chinese visited California and spent approximately $327 million dollars, according to the CTC. Moreover, the World Tourism Organization anticipates that China will have 100 million outbound travelers by 2015. Those figures take into consideration China’s lifting of its ban on group leisure travel to the United States last year. China is the seventh international tourism office for California. Remaining offices include the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Germany and Mexico. Global visitation to California generates $16.7 billion, or 17 percent of overall tourism expenditure in the state.
