SAG Negotiator to Stay

The lead negotiator for the Screen Actors Guild remains in his position after his backers on the union’s board was able to rebuff an attempt to fire him. Although Doug Allen will stay with guild, his authority and that of President Alan Rosenberg over the 120,000 members has been diminished, the Los Angeles Times reported. Moderates on the SAG board introduced a resolution calling for Allen to be fired and the negotiating committee to be disbanded. But that failed after Allen’s supporters filibustered the vote, the Times reported. The union and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers are deadlocked over a new contract, primarily on the issue of compensation for work made available through downloads, streaming and distributed to mobile devices. The SAG contract expired in June.
