Fleming Joins Water Agency Board

San Fernando Valley business leader David Fleming has been appointed to the board of the directors of the Metropolitan Water District. The district is responsible for providing drinking water to 18 million people in Southern California and half the water used by the City of Los Angeles. Board members are tasked with ensuring the supply of high-quality water to meet the region’s needs in an environmentally and economically responsible way. Fleming, an attorney, was chosen by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to sit on the board because of qualifications that will lead the city through a period of drought and water shortages. “With David on the Board, Los Angeles will continue to lead the state in water conservation and create a path for a more sustainable future,” Villaraigosa said. Fleming co-chaired the reform movement that resulted in a new city charter being adopted in 1999, and was involved in the Valley secession movement. Other organizations Fleming has served are the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation, Economic Alliance of the San Fernando Valley, the Valley Presbyterian Hospital board and the Children’s Planning Council of Los Angeles County.
