Budget-cut talks begin

CITY HALL , The City Council on Tuesday began the monthlong process of budget cutting in order to bridge an anticipated $7.2-million shortfall for next fiscal year, considering reductions that could mean reduced library hours and other cutbacks in city services. A state budget crisis, growing unemployment rate and anemic revenues all contributed to the projected $7.2-million deficit, which could grow to $11 million by 2013, said Jennifer Kaplan, deputy financial services director. The state could also borrow up to 8% of local property tax revenue, affecting Burbank to the tune of $3.4 million, city officials said. For the full story click here
