The American Bar Association’s Banking Law Committee plans to give the proposed Consumer Financial Protection Agency the once over during its fall meeting in Washington. The group plans to examine how the agency might affect consumer lending, industry and government litigation, regulatory enforcement, as well as how the government might provide for optimum mitigation of negative impacts brought on by formation of the new agency. The meeting will be held Nov. 12 to 14 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Washington D.C. The event will feature remarks by Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Neal Wolin and Comptroller of the Currency John Dugan. The meat-and-potatoes issues that will be addressed during the meeting include attorneys’ representation of financial institutions and pending regulatory proposals, and will include sessions on regulatory reform, challenges facing in-house counsels, and ethics implications of using social networks.
