Despite an increase in new orders from the aerospace and defense industries, engineering services provider National Technical Systems Inc. had a drop in net income for the second quarter when compared with the previous year. Calabasas-based National Technical reported net income of $852,000, or $0.09 per diluted share, on revenues of $28.7 for the period ending July 31. For the same period in 2008, the company had net income of $1,019,000, or $0.11 per diluted share, on revenues of $30.6 million. The increase in aerospace and defense orders was offset by a moderate decline in orders from the automotive, power products and telecommunications markets, company officials said. During the quarter, National Technical added business development talent to increase the capability of providing product design, product development and product prototyping services as part of the company’s overall integrated engineering services offering.
