The Valley Economic Alliance has announced the honorees of its “Valley of the Stars” awards, which recognize individuals, businesses and organizations that have made substantial contributions to the San Fernando Valley. The organization offers the awards in the areas of arts and entertainment, business and education, according to a statement released by the organization. The winners are also required to have contributed to the growth and vitality of the San Fernando Valley region. Emmy Award-winning actress Nancy Cartwright, who is known for playing the voice of Bart Simpson and other characters from The Simpsons television show, is the honoree in the field of arts and entertainment. Cartwright is the Honorary Mayor of the North San Fernando Valley and is the co-founder of Happy House, a nonprofit organization for youth. Building and management services company Bernards is the honoree in the business field. The company is being recognized for its success in leading development projects. Some of the company’s past projects include the Burbank High School renovation, two 100-foot IMAX theaters at Universal Studios and The Americana at Brand, the statement said. The Eisner Foundation, which provides funding to nonprofit organizations, is receiving the humanitarian award. In 2008, the foundation expanded its funding focus to include the young and the elderly. It has given about $7 million per year to nonprofit organizations in Los Angeles County, according to the statement. The education award will be presented to the five public college foundations in the San Fernando Valley. The honorees include California State University, Northridge Foundation; Glendale College Foundation; Los Angeles Mission College Foundation; Los Angeles Valley College Foundation; and Pierce College Foundation. The awards will be presented to the winners on June 26 at Valley of the Stars gala dinner from 6 to 10 p.m. at CBS Studio Center in Studio City. Jessica Selva
