EXECUTIVE SUMMARY This is the Business Journal’s inaugural List for local home health care companies, an often overlooked segment of the health care industry. It consists of companies that offer both medical and other support services to seniors, children and people with disabilities directly to their household. The List is ranked by total number of employees working in the greater San Fernando Valley. A large portion of these employment figures are licensed nursing professionals. These licenses and certifications are required by the federal government. When disclosed, the number of licensed nurses and assistants has been provided next to the employee data. The largest companies on this List are franchised operations headquartered outside of the Southern California region. – By Josh Dausch THE PACESETTER Coming in at no. 1 is Maryland-based Maxim Healthcare Services with a total presence of approximately 300 local employees and 35,000 nationwide. This comes as no surprise since Maxim is the largest privately-held medical staffing company in the country. They have been accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) and are one of the oldest companies on the List with over twenty years experience. Its caregivers offer everything from specialized medical treatment to basic companionship with daily living activities.
