EXECUTIVE SUMMARY / THE PACESETTER – Private Schools

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The Private Schools List ranks local elementary, middle and high schools in the greater Valley area that are not administered by local, state or national governments. The schools are ranked by total student enrollment for the 2010-2011 school year. Forty schools are presented here with Pinecrest Schools holding its No. 1 position thanks to its multitude of area campuses. The remainder of the top half of the List is almost identical to 2010’s List with the biggest change being Oaks Christian overtaking The Help Group for the No. 5 spot. These larger schools feature enrollments ranging from 2,000 to 4,000. The smallest school here is Beth Hillel Day School in Valley Village with a total of 83 students. – By Josh Dausch THE PACESETTER For the 6th consecutive year, Pinecrest Schools has topped the Private School List with a total enrollment of 3,800 students in the greater Valley area. Pinecrest Schools operates campuses in Canyon Country, Thousand Oaks, Lancaster, Valencia, Van Nuys, Simi Valley, Northridge, Woodland Hills and their most recent addition, Moorpark, opened in 2000. This is the largest presence in the region of all local private schools, providing educational services for children 18 months through 8th grade. The first campus was opened in Van Nuys in 1951 by Edna Mae Dye. Sixty years later, 3 campuses have been honored as National Blue Ribbon schools. The Pinecrest Schools are fully accredited by the National Independent Private Schools Association through 2012. – By Josh Dausch Download the 2011 SF VALLEY’S LARGEST PRIVATE SCHOOLS list (pdf)
