DreamWorks Animation Income Falls in Q3

Lower foreign box office revenues during the third quarter contributed to DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. recording a drop in quarterly net income when compared to a year ago. The Glendale-based animation studio reported net income of $19.7 million, or $0.23 per diluted share, on revenues of $160.8 million for the quarter ending Sept. 30. For the same period in 2010, the company reported net income of $39.8 million, or $0.47 per diluted shares, on revenues of $188.8 million. The international box office take of $39.4 million for “Kung Fu Panda 2” contributed the most revenues during the third quarter. The film, released in May, has brought in $660 million in worldwide box office. The “Panda” international box office, however, fell short to what “Shrek Forever After” brought in a year ago. During the third quarter 2010, the fourth “Shrek” film brought in $120.4 million. For the fourth quarter the studio forecast that revenues will come from the release of its next theatrical film, “Puss In Boots,” and from “Kung Fu Panda 2” hitting the home entertainment market.
