Palmdale Regional Medical Center announced that its Center for Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine has received physician board-certification in wound care. The Center now has the only double board-certified hyperbaric and wound care physician in the Antelope Valley, the hospital said. The specialization is important to providing high quality care for chronic and traumatic wounds in patients, especially diabetics. Chronic wounds caused by diabetes, poor circulation or other conditions keep millions of people from taking part in their favorite activities. Hyperbaric medicine can help heal wounds, including those that have resisted healing after months or years of traditional treatment. During treatment, patients breathe 100 percent oxygen to improve blood flow, which helps to reduce the risk of infection and encourages growth of new blood vessels. Judy Temes
