Lancaster Launches Shuttle Project

Looking to boost business on Lancaster Boulevard, the city of Lancaster has launched a new, free shuttle service to get travelers out of their hotel rooms and onto the street. The city launched The B Line on May 4, a shuttle service that carries riders between eight Lancaster hotels and The BLVD, which has enjoyed a renaissance in recent years with new businesses and landscaping. The B Line is a demonstration project that will run until July 15, the city says. Brenda Gamlowski, manager for the project, said local hotels found that their guests —who arrive in droves for business and sporting events — would often simply go back to their rooms after their special function finished. But now there’s another way to get downtown and The BLVD businesses “are very excited,” Gamlowski said. The shuttle is run by a private shuttle company and funded through Proposition A funds. After the demonstration project ends, the city plans to gather with businesses and the hotels to determine whether such a service would be viable in the future. On opening day, the shuttle dropped riders off at a black-tie event celebrating the new Museum of Art and History on Lancaster Boulevard, in addition to other stops. Other attractions on The BLVD are the Lancaster Performing Arts Center, a Laemmle theater, a farmer’s market, and dining and retail establishments. The shuttle runs from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday. There are five stops, which include two on The BLVD at Fern and Date avenues. Hotels served include Hampton Inn, Comfort Inn & Suites, Town House Motel and others. — Andrew Khouri
