The chief executive officer of Universal Music Group and a founder of online streaming site Hulu have been nominated to serve on the DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. board of directors. Lucian Grainge and Jason Kilar will stand for election to the board at the May 29 annual meeting of the Glendale company. The pair would replace two directors who are leaving. Grainge and Kilar are stars in their respective industries, said DreamWorks Chief Executive Jeffrey Katzenberg. “Jason revolutionized how we consume content, and Lucian is one of the most innovative forces in the music industry,” Katzenberg said in a prepared statement. “The addition of their expertise to our already incredibly strong board will help take the company to new heights as we continue to grow our brand.” Kilar was founding chief executive of Hulu, the online streaming service that is a joint venture of NBCUniversal Television Group, Fox Broadcasting Co. and Disney-ABC Television Group. He resigned that position in March. Prior to Hulu, Kilar had been with online retailer Amazon.com Inc. Grainge joined Universal Music Group in 1986 where he took new approaches to the signing and development of recording artists and songwriters. Grainge also serves on the board of videogame publisher Activision Blizzard, Inc. Leaving the board is Nathan Myhrvold, 53, formerly the chief technology officer at Microsoft who later co-founded Intellectual Ventures, a patent holding company. He has served on the board since 2004. Richard Sherman, chief executive of David Geffen Co., also is departing. He served on the board since 2008.
