Salem Acquires Twitchy from Michelle Malkin

Salem Communications Inc. has acquired the Twitter compilation site Twitchy.com from politically conservative author and columnist Michelle Malkin. The Camarillo company, a Christian-themed radio broadcaster and publisher, will add Twitchy to its stable of conservative news sites, which include Townhall.com and HotAir.com. Together with Twitchy, the sites will have nearly 10 million unique readers and more than 100 million pageviews each month, according to Salem. Malkin, who worked several years at the Los Angeles Daily News but is now based in Colorado Springs, also started the HotAir site, which she sold to Salem in 2010. While HotAir is a regular news site, Twitchy compiles Twitter messages to form a streaming commentary feed. Malkin announced the deal on Twitchy on Tuesday. The acquisition price was not disclosed. “They have harnessed the power of social media to create a real-time newswire for the modern, interconnected world,” said Jonathan Garthwaite , Salem’s general manager of Townhall and HotAir. “With the addition of Twitchy to our growing network of news and political websites, there is no better collection of conservative news and opinion on the web.” Shares of Salem closed up 6 cents, or a fraction of a percent, to $8.99 on the Nasdaq.
