Company Briefs: Cheesecake Factory, Apollo Medical

Cheesecake Factory Inc. opened its first restaurant in Saudi Arabia on Saturday. The 10,700-square-foot outlet at an indoor mall in the coastal city of Jeddah will accommodate 305 guests. It is fourth restaurant the Calabasas company has opened in the Middle East through a franchise agreement with M. H. Alshaya Co. W.L.L. of Kuwait. There are two outlets in Dubai – one of which is the largest Cheesecake factory in the world at 22,800-square-feet in the Mall of the Emirates – and one in the Avenues Mall in Kuwait. Outside of the Middle East, there are 168 Cheesecake locations nationwide and Puerto Rico, with plans to also expand into Mexico and South America. Apollo Medical Holdings Inc. has appointed Edward Rotan as senior vice president of its new Maverick IPA unit, the company announced on Monday. The Glendale company, which manages doctors groups that assist hospital inpatients, founded Maverick in June to serve patients covered by Medicare or private insurance at doctors’ offices and outpatient facilities. Rotan previously founded and managed U.S. Dermatology Medical Management, a company that acquired dermatologist groups. The company was sold to a private equity fund in 2011. Earlier in his career, he served as president of Medical Pathways, owner of 16 independent physician associations. Shares of Apollo closed up 1 cent to 62 cents on the over-the-counter market.
