Antelope Valley Gets Electric Buses

Antelope Valley Transit Authority has purchased two battery-powered buses as part of its clean transportation program, the agency announced Monday. The 40-foot buses were made by BYD, the Chinese vehicle manufacturer with a large plant in Lancaster. The purchase was financed by a $1.9 million grant from Proposition A funds. The ballot initiative, passed by Los Angeles County voters in 1990, provides a half-cent sales tax with the proceeds dedicated to transportation projects. The grant was arranged by L.A. County Supervisor Michael Antonovich, who represents the Antelope Valley. “The Antelope Valley Transit Authority is grateful to the supervisor for his leadership and we are ready to get started on this important initiative,” Executive Director Julie Austin said in a statement. “We look forward to this exciting partnership with BYD.”
