New Dean at Cal Lutheran Business School

Gerhard Apfelthaler has been named the dean of the School of Management at California Lutheran University. Apfelthaler will replace Charles Maxey, who is stepping down to return to full-time teaching and research, on June 1. Maxey held the position since 1991. Apfelthaler is a professor of international business and management, and associate dean of graduate programs at the School of Management. In addition, he is overseeing the school’s Master’s of Business Administration program in Austria. He joined the university is 2009. “Gerhard brings to this position a strong international network, a steady record of publishing and an entrepreneurial spirit,” said Provost Leanne Neilson in a statement. Apfelthaler has published several books and is working on another, “The Deadly Sins of International Business.” Enrollment in the management school, which offers classes in Woodland Hills, Oxnard and Thousand Oaks, has increased more than 20 percent over the last three years. The school had 475 full-time and 282 part-time students in the 2011-2012 academic year.
