Final Taco Served at Henry’s

Henry’s Tacos, a historic Studio City taco stand, closed down Saturday after 51 years in business. The closure of the stand at Moorpark Street and Tujunga Avenue came despite an outpouring of support for the business, founded by Henry Comstock, the grandfather of current owner Janis Hood. Hood had gotten entangled in a rent dispute with the owner of the property after she sought the stand’s designation as a city landmark. She had hoped to sell the business on site to two patrons but the deal fell apart last week. Hood now hopes to sell the name to Omar Vega, a 21-year employee who would reopen in a different location. In its final weeks in business, the taco stand attracted long lines, as well as support for an online campaign to save it that was backed by celebrities including George Lopez.
