Disney to Sell Classic Songs Through CreateSpace

Walt Disney Records has signed a deal with Amazon.com to release out-of-print titles and certain classic Disney film soundtracks on CD through Amazon’s manufacture-on-demand service CreateSpace. The unit of Burbank’s Walt Disney Co. said there now are 18 titles available in the Disney CD Rarities section of the Disney Music Store on Amazon.com, with additional titles to be added monthly. The catalog includes a re-released collection of recordings by former Musketeer and movie star Annette Funicello that will be available Tuesday. Soundtrack titles will range from the recent release “Avengers” to the classic animated film “Peter Pan.” Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. “Fans will now have a convenient way to obtain high-quality recordings of many of their favorite out-of-print classic soundtracks and albums and re-engage with their favorite musical memories,” Curt Eddy, Disney Music Group senior vice president of sales, said in a statement. Shares of Disney closed down 76 cents or 1.2 percent at 64.40 on the New York Stock Exchange.
