Ventura County Passes Condom Law for Adult Films

The Ventura County Board of Supervisors joined the growing pattern of passing a law requiring condoms in adult films. The ordinance is modeled after one regulating adult film shoots in Los Angeles County and applies to unincorporated areas of the county. To obtain a permit, productions must pay a $400 fee. The law was proposed by Supervisors Linda Parks and Kathy Long due to an increased interest in requests for filming permits for adult productions in unincorporated areas and to minimize the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. Parks represents a district that includes parts of Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, Newbury Park and Oak Park. In addition to Los Angeles County, the City of Simi Valley also passed a mandatory condom law. The City is Camarillo is looking into passing its own ordinance, and a pending bill is before lawmakers in Sacramento to cover the entire state with the regulation. A legal challenge against the Los Angeles County law is pending in U.S. District Court.
