DTS Signs Deal With Chinese Car Maker

DTS Inc. will supply surround-sound technology for four models of vehicles made by Chinese auto manufacturer BYD Co. Ltd. The Calabasas-based audio technology company will supply DTS Digital Surround for the G6, S6, Sirui and Surui BYD models released in China in the second quarter. The deal with BYD is another milestone for DTS in getting its audio technologies in the automotive industry, said George Wu, general manager of DTS China. “With this strategic integration, we are expanding our roster of automobile manufacturers in China who are looking to incorporate DTS-powered multi-channel audio systems into vehicles,” Wu said in a prepared statement. In 2012, DTS announced that Chinese broadcaster Guangzhou Broadcasting Network would use the company’s technology to broadcast in surround sound. Shares in DTS closed Thursday down 7 cents, or 0.37 percent, to $18.87 on the Nasdaq.
