Briefs: Hollywood Employment, Research Solutions, Fireman’s Brew.

Jobs in the entertainment industry continue to decline, according to a report this week from the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp. In L.A. County, employment has dropped about 6.6 percent over the last five years, falling to nearly 133,000 in 2012. Overall, the industry has lost about 9,000 jobs since 2007. Movie and video production were the hardest hit, down about 7,800 jobs, or more than 7 percent, in the same period. By contrast, post-production services, radio stations and television broadcasting have seen growth, with the latter adding about 1,700 jobs. The report does, however, expect the employment numbers to grow about 3 percent through 2017. Research Solutions Inc. reported plummeting revenue and a net loss in its fiscal second quarter. The Encino company, which distributes paper and online articles from scholarly journals, reported a net loss of $447,000 for the quarter ended Dec. 31, compared to a profit of $178,000 million for the same quarter a year earlier. Revenue fell 31 percent to $9.6 million. However, the company reported strong sales growth from its Article Galaxy online reprint service, which rose 9 percent to $945,000. Chief Executive Peter Derycz said he expects continued growth from the service, which should boost the company’s earnings next quarter. “Article Galaxy continues to grow and has consolidated its position as our newest and highest-revenue and gross-margin product,” Derycz said in a statement. The company was previously named for Derycz, but changed its name last March. No analysts follow the company. Shares of the lightly traded stock lost 14 cents, or 7 percent, to close at $1.86 in the over-the-counter market. Fireman’s Brew Inc. has signed an agreement to distribute its beers in San Diego County. The Woodland Hills microbrewery will be distributed by Crest Beverage, a subsidiary of Reyes Holdings LLC of Rosemont, Ill. Crest Beverage will distribute Fireman’s Brew in 12-ounce bottle six-packs, twelve-pack samplers and kegs. “As a craft beer hub, San Diego has always been a strategic priority for us,” said Chief Executive Roger Baer, in a statement. Fireman’s Brew makes three different types of beer and sells premium coffee beans and sodas.
