Private membership airline Surf Air announced on Wednesday it is expanding its service from Burbank Bob Hope Airport with flights to Las Vegas and Truckee. The Santa Monica firm, pending government approval, will provide direct weekend service from Burbank to Las Vegas McCarran International Airport starting March 21. Weekend service to Truckee, near Lake Tahoe, begins May 2 with flights connecting from Bob Hope. Surf Air, which began service last year, offers unlimited flights for a membership fee starting at $1,350 per month on a small turboprop. The monthly fee will increase after the new service offerings begin, the company said. The company was originally conceived to serve tech executives commuting between the Bay Area and Los Angeles, and currently offers 16 flights daily to and from San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Santa Barbara. Locally, it also flies out of Hawthorne airport, where it will offer direct weekend flights to Las Vegas. The latest expansion adds leisure destinations and follows the reported participation in a funding round by Zappos.com entrepreneur Tony Hsieh, whose company is based in Las Vegas. “We are constantly working to provide accessibility and flexibility in travel opportunities to our members and we could not be more thrilled to add these two destinations to our portfolio,” said Surf Air Executive Chairman Sudhin Shahani in a prepared statement.
