‘Frozen’ Replaces Barbie as Top Toy

Shoppers polled for the National Retail Federation’s annual Holiday Top Toys Survey have chosen dolls from Walt Disney Co.’s “Frozen” as their top gift choice for girls. It marks the first time in 11 years that Mattel Inc.’s Barbie doll did not take the top spot. Twenty percent of those surveyed chose the dolls from “Frozen,” while 16.8 percent chose Barbie. Third place was taken by the generic “dolls” category. The NRF and its surveying company queried nearly 6,600 people in early November for the survey. Burbank-based Disney released “Frozen” in November 2013. It has generated an estimated $1.3 billion in box office revenue. Shares of Disney closed up $1.07 or 1.2 percent to $91.65 on the New York Stock Exchange.
