Biden Promotes Minimum Wage Hike in Valley

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden made an appearance in the San Fernando Valley on Wednesday for a speech in support of raising the minimum wage. Biden was joined on stage at local manufacturer Bobrick Washroom Equipment Inc. in North Hollywood by L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti. One day earlier, the L.A. County Board of Supervisors approved increasing the minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2020. This followed June’s passage of the same minimum wage hike by the L.A. City Council, making L.A. the largest city in the U.S. to pass such an ordinance. Biden praised local government for setting the tone for other cities. He referred to the passage as a gateway out of poverty and said, “it’s hard to have dignity when you are working 40-hours plus and living in poverty.” Wednesday night Biden attended a fundraiser in Beverly Hills. Thursday morning he flew to the Bay Area to give a speech at Theranos, a health care technology company located in Palo Alto. Bobrick Washroom Equipment Inc. was founded in 1906 and manufacturers washroom accessories and toilet partitions. The company currently employees 100 people at its North Hollywood location.
