AwesomenessTV Signs Endemol Distribution Deal

Teen YouTube network AwesomenessTV will extend its international reach through a partnership with content creator and distributor Endemol Shine Group, the companies announced Monday. Endemol Shine, in Amsterdam, will launch local language AwesomenessTV channels in the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain and Brazil. The companies will collaborate on new content, such as long-form series, for both broadcast and digital distribution. Endemol is a major producer of TV shows globally. AwesomenessTV is jointly owned by DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc., in Glendale, and Hearst Corp., in New York. AwesomenessTV Chief Executive Brian Robbins said the deal with Endemol Shine expands the network’s footprint to reach teen audiences in their local languages. “We will also be able to offer creative talent in these markets the same opportunities as those in the U.S., including brand deals, marketing support and premium production,” Robbins said in a prepared statement. The Glendale animation studio acquired AwesomenessTV in 2013 for $33 million. It sold off a 25 percent stake to Hearst Corp. last year for $81 million as part of a deal that gave it access to Seventeen magazine content. Shares closed up 19 cents, or 1 percent, to $18.86 on the Nasdaq.
