Biotech Firm Announces Growth Initiatives

Stellar Biotechnologies Inc. has announced expansion of its manufacturing and aquaculture systems. The Port Hueneme biotechnology company specializes in manufacturing keyhole limpet hemocyanin, or KLH, which is used as a carrier protein in immunotherapy research. KLH are collected from keyhole limpets, a kind of sea snail found along the western coast of North America. Stellar Biotechnologies Inc. appointed Liliana Marghitoiu to lead the quality control department and Kalam Azad to expand the aquaculture production systems. The company also expanded its team at its Mexican facility by appointing Luis Gonzalez Argaz as general manager. The company said the new appointees will lead the expansion of aquaculture technology and the capacity of its manufacturing. “These scientists and industry experts bring valuable experience in scaling up production, process validation and regulatory compliance, and we are confident that they will contribute greatly to our growth initiatives,” said Gregory T. Baxter, Ph.D., Stellar Executive Vice President of Corporate Development in a statement. Shares of Stellar on Wednesday closed up 5 cents or more than 4 percent to $1.20 on Nasdaq.
