50 Fastest Growing Private Companies 2017: USA Link System

Glendale CEO: Ally Spinu Growth Rate: 425% Ask USA Link System founder and Chief Executive Ally Spinu to what she attributes the company’s phenomenal growth and she will pinpoint the way it approaches a client’s campaign. “We don’t only create ad campaigns for clients,” she said. “We study the ins and outs of their industry to understand their business.” USA Link System provides digital advertising and marketing services, social media marketing, website and app development, search engine optimization and consulting services. Spinu said social media is an important way to communicate with new and regular customers. “It’s important that companies take advantage of the tools social media gives them when it comes to connecting with their audience,” she added. USA Link System landed in the No. 1 spot on the Business Journal’s Fastest Growing Private Companies list with a 425 percent growth rate from 2014, when it had it had revenue of $1.8 million, to 2016 when it brought in $9.5 million. This is the company’s second appearance on the list. Last year, it ranked No. 2. Spinu started the company in 2011 after she had been working as a wholesale car dealer and was disappointed in the difficulty of finding a user-friendly website to reach her clients. Tamar Sadd, an economic development coordinator with Glendale, said the city was excited when a local company performs as well as USA Link System has performed. It was excited, too, to have the company be part of its technology ecosystem and involved with wanting to facilitate its growth. The company has been a platinum sponsor for the two years that Glendale Tech Week has taken place in the city, Sadd said. Sponsorship at that level costs $5,000. “I know they want to get more heavily involved next year in Glendale Tech Week,” she added. “We are excited to see them be part of the larger conversation we are trying to have.” As Glendale is focused on technology-based companies, USA Link is the type of business the city looks to attract and retain, Sadd said. They bring in good paying jobs requiring an advanced educational background in which to work and grow in these companies, she added. “Glendale has been focused on helping these companies prosper,” Sadd said. Foreign advantage In addition to the Glendale location, USA Link has offices in the Philippines, where there are call center agents, graphic designers and developers; India, where are located SEO strategists, marketing experts and web and app developers; and the former Soviet republic of Moldova, where there are web developers, designers and writers. Having the overseas offices presented a challenge at first because of the time differences and language barriers. Those were overcome by making tasks as transparent as possible, Spinu said. “Having offices around the world gives us an advantage when it comes to creativity,” she added. “Our cultural diversity provides a different perspective or another lens when it comes to creating ad campaigns for our clients.” Company clients have included Mobile Styles, an on-the-go health and beauty app designed for busy professionals; Export Portal, an online marketplace that facilitates transactions between buyers, sellers, and shippers; and Public Auction Finder, an online association that helps auctioneers expand their audience around the nation. In Europe the company has subcontracted with major companies for marketing projects. Mobile Styles, in the Los Angeles area, has become an interesting project for the USA Link staff because it’s all about beauty and fashion, Spinu said. “Our copywriters, graphic designers, and social media specialists can be more playful in engaging with our professional clients and their customers,” she added. Another interesting campaign was for a European company promoting pipelines. It was difficult at first, Spinu said, as it is a narrow market. But after researching the industry, the staff was up to creating a campaign to successfully promote the company’s products, Spinu said. “We find difficult projects interesting because we get a sense of accomplishment in creating solutions,” she added. Still, finding the right talent to bring to USA Link has been a challenge. A top priority is finding individuals who fit the company’s culture of doing business with a splash of fun, Spinu said. “We believe that the right team drives a company’s best results,” she added.
