The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $23.1 million in infrastructure grants for work at Van Nuys Airport and at Fox Airfield in Lancaster.

Van Nuys received $20.8 million in Airport Improvement Program funding to rebuild taxiway B on the east side of the airfield in addition to improvements to lighting and signage.

The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners approved on Sept. 6 a contract to Griffith Co., in Brea, to do the work, which will be completed by February 2020.

Fox Airfield received $2.3 million to reconstruct the runway at the Antelope Valley airport, which is owned by Los Angeles County.

Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao called the grants investments in the country’s critical infrastructure.

“These grants are down payments to ensure Van Nuys and Fox Airfield remain economic engines as demand grows,” Chao said in a prepared statement.
