San Fernando Valley Chatsworth Four rocket engines originally designed for the Space Shuttle have been delivered to Michoud Assembly Facility near New Orleans to be attached to the core stage of the Space Launch System, NASA’s next generation heavy-lift rocket that will take astronauts on missions into deep space, potentially even to Mars. Built by Aerojet Rocketdyne at its Chatsworth facility, the RS-25 engines are among 16 the company will provide to NASA for use on the first four missions of the SLS. In 2015, Aerojet Rocketdyne received a contract valued at more than $1.2 billion through 2024 to make more RS-25 engines. Aerojet Rocketdyne Chief Executive Eileen Drake said that the new rocket builds on the company’s legacy of having powered every astronaut launched from U.S. soil. The first test flight of SLS is scheduled to take place in June 2020. The first manned mission is scheduled for 2023. Northridge Medtronic’s MiniMed 508 Paradigm, an insulin pump product, has been recalled after exhibiting potential cyber security risks, according to a statement issued from the Food and Drug Administration. Medtronic is a medical technology company headquartered in Dublin, Ireland; its diabetes division is in Northridge. “The FDA has become aware that an unauthorized person (someone other than a patient, patient caregiver, or health care provider) could potentially connect wirelessly to a nearby MiniMed insulin pump with cybersecurity vulnerabilities,” the organization said in a statement. “This person could change the pump’s settings to either over-deliver insulin to a patient, leading to low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), or stop insulin delivery, leading to high blood sugar and diabetic ketoacidosis.” There are no confirmed reports of unauthorized persons changing settings or controlling delivery, according to Medtronic. Tarzana A pair of apartment buildings at 5919 and 5931 Reseda Blvd. in Tarzana totaling 112 units has sold for $25.8 million. Michael Koshet of KW Commercial in Encino represented the buyer and seller in the transaction. According to CoStar Group, PCS Corp. purchased the units from Lion Real Estate Group. Built in 1964, the 50-unit Terraces II at 5919 Reseda Blvd. spans 26,606 square feet and scales two floors. Built in 1970, the Terraces, at 5931 Reseda Blvd., boasts 62 apartments and also stands two stories high. According to Koshet, the buyer assumed an existing loan for $14.7 million from Chase Bank to complete the transaction. Woodland Hills Endonovo Therapeutics, an electric therapy device maker, has named Dr. Steven Levin to its scientific advisory board. Levin will work with the business to introduce the SofPulse product to health care facilities and further develop devices in the pipeline. He comes from the academic world as regional medical director at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He also serves as assistant professor for the university’s department of anesthesiology. Tri Cities Burbank Walt Disney Co.’s directors announced a dividend of 88 cents a share, unchanged from the previous one. The Burbank entertainment and media giant will pay the semi-annual dividend on July 25 to all shareholders of record at the close of business on July 8. Chief Executive Robert Iger said the divided reflects the company’s strong financial performance in the first half of the fiscal year. “With the upcoming launch of our Disney+ service and a greatly expanded portfolio of powerful brands and businesses from our acquisition of 21st Century Fox, we’re confident that the company is extremely well-positioned for continued growth,” Iger said in a statement. Disney last paid a dividend, also 88 cents, in January. Ann Sarnoff has been named as the new chief executive at Warner Bros. Entertainment. Sarnoff joins the Burbank company three months after former chief executive Kevin Tsujihara left the post amid an investigation by its parent company WarnerMedia over alleged misconduct involving an affair with an actress and attempts to help her get roles in the studio’s films. Sarnoff is currently president of BBC Studios America, overseeing the business division in the U.S., Canada and Latin America. She shepherded L.A. Productions’ linear and digital program sales and co-productions, home entertainment, and licensing, according to entertainment industry news website Deadline. Since Tsujihara left in March, Warner Bros. has been managed by an interim team of leaders who will now report to Sarnoff. Glendale A 19-unit multifamily property in Glendale has sold for $7.6 million. Priscilla Nee of CBRE Group Inc. represented the seller, a private investor. She said the property sold for $300,000 more than the original asking price. Located at 714 E. Acacia Ave. and built in 1987, the 18,901-square-foot property sits on a 14,962-square-foot lot. The complex, focused on two-bedroom/two-bathroom units, features underground parking, intercom entry, central air and heat and an on-site laundry facility. A portion of the units have been recently renovated to include new stainless-steel appliances, granite countertops and wood flooring Ventura County Camarillo Semtech Corp.’s seventh annual charity golf tournament raised more than $108,000 in donations for Ventura County nonprofits Interface Children & Family Services and Kids & Families Together, which provide child services programs in areas like trauma treatment, abuse prevention and adoptive family placements. The tournament was held June 14 at Los Robles Golf Course in Thousand Oaks and featured raffles and an awards dinner with a silent auction. Semtech is a manufacturer of semiconductors and other specialized technology products. The company’s golf tournament has raised about $400,000 for Ventura County organizations since its inception. Simi Valley Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute in Simi Valley announced the winners of the 2019 GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program, in partnership with Boston conglomerate General Electric. This year, the program awarded 18 undergraduate students across the United States with scholarships of $10,000 a year for up to four years toward college tuition and room and board. Recipients are attending such schools as Harvard University, Dartmouth College, Georgia Institute of Technology and University of Washington. No California students received scholarships. In the nine years since its inception, the scholarship program has awarded $7 million to 175 students. Thousand Oaks The European Medicines Agency issued a negative opinion for Amgen Inc.’s Evenity, a drug to treat osteoporosis. The biotech company and UCB, a Brussels company, have been working together to develop the drug. Both companies intend to submit a written notice for the agency to re-examine Evenity for treatment in Europe. “We are disappointed by the committee’s opinion and continue to believe that Evenity has a positive benefit-risk profile,” said Dr. David Reese, executive vice president of research and development at Amgen. Although the opinion is a setback in the quest for the drug’s approval in Europe, Evenity was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in April and it also received approvals in Japan, South Korea and Canada. Ventura Cannabis education company Green Flower Media closed $20 million in series A financing. The round was led by Tuatara Capital in New York, with additional funding from Poseidon Asset Management in San Francisco and Phyto Partners in Boca Raton, Fla. Green Flower Media, founded in 2014, is a marijuana education platform offering video and training content as well as certificate programs in cannabis business practices, medical applications, legal regulations and compliance, product manufacturing, hemp, CBD, sales and more. The funding will expand Green Flower’s streaming subscription service with four new channels—cannabis business, cannabis for health and wellness, growing cannabis and hemp and cannabis culture—and will support buildout of a mobile app. It will also enable the company to grow its team from 25 to 75 individuals.
