Celebrity Taco to Benefit Nonprofit

Sherman Oaks restaurant Casa Vega has partnered with big name rock stars to design limited edition tacos, the sales of which will benefit a local charity. The 64-year-old Mexican eatery’s latest collaborator is Foo Fighters front man Dave Grohl, whose proclivity for smoked meats inspired the creation of the “Foo Fighters Taco,” featuring smoked brisket, a Mexican spice rub and barbeque sauce topped with coleslaw, pickled onions and cilantro. It costs $7. Grohl also created a tequila cocktail called “Los Luchadores Foo,” which costs $14.Profits from Grohl’s menu items will be donated to No Us Without You, a nonprofit that provides free food to undocumented restaurant workers and their families.

Damian Diaz and Othón Nolasco, founders of Boyle Heights bar consultancy Va’La Hospitality, created No Us Without You in March after the coronavirus pandemic forced massive layoffs in the restaurant industry. The company transformed its office space into a food distribution facility and now feeds more than 1,300 families every week.

The Foo Fighters Taco became available for takeout and delivery on Dec. 1, and will run until the end of January.
