Amazon, Partners Enter Palmdale

The world’s biggest online retailer is establishing a distribution presence in the Antelope Valley. Amazon.com Inc. announced late last month that it will open a Delivery Services Partners center in Palmdale before the end of this year. Delivery Services Partners is a program the e-commerce giant launched in 2018 in which it teams up with a local logistics company that leases Amazon-branded vans and hires its own drivers to deliver packages. The distribution center will be located at 600 W. Technology Drive in a 130,392-square-foot warehouse space formerly occupied by Sinclair Printing and electronics manufacturer SST Technologies. Amazon has not disclosed the identity of its partner at the facility. Full-time and part-time positions at the center will start at $15 an hour. Palmdale Mayor Steve Hofbauer said Amazon’s selection of the site is a testament to the city’s pro-business culture. “This endeavor will create hundreds of new full- and part-time jobs and will further diversify our growing economy. We’re proud to be a part of a great effort to help unleash the entrepreneurial spirit here in the Antelope Valley and provide opportunities for people to grow their own businesses,” Hofbauer said in a statement. Added Palmdale City Manager J.J. Murphy: “We were able to attract Amazon without providing them any financial incentives. It shows that major companies see Palmdale as an innovative community where they want to be so their businesses can thrive.” Amazon maintains its own distribution centers in Newbury Park and Chatsworth. It is preparing to open the debut iteration of its recently announced Amazon Fresh grocery store concept in the Warner Center neighborhood of Woodland Hills.
