Spirit Flies To Seattle

By MARK R. MADLER Staff Reporter Just a year after beginning service at the Hollywood Burbank Airport, Spirit Airlines is adding new flights from the San Fernando Valley’s only commercial airfield. Spirit, in Miramar, Fla., announced last month it would have daily nonstop service between Hollywood Burbank and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport starting on June 10. The low-cost airline started service between Burbank and Las Vegas last June. “Since starting service to Las Vegas, our Burbank guests have responded enthusiastically to our value proposition of low fares, operational reliability and Signature Service,” John Kirby, vice president of network planning at Spirit, said in a statement. In its first six months of service at Burbank, Spirit handled 73,090 passengers. During the third quarter of last year, the first full quarter for Spirit at Burbank, the number of passengers flying to Las Vegas increased by about 50 percent while fares fell by 24 percent, the airline said. Frank Miller, executive director of the airport, said he was pleased with the new flights. “Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is a leader in moving people and cargo across the country and around the world and we welcome Spirt Airlines and its daily flight to Seattle,” Miller said in a statement.
