Amazon’s Conejo Store

An Amazon Fresh grocery appears to be going into Caruso’s The Promenade at Westlake retail center by the first quarter of 2021.A local report spotted the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control posted a liquor license transfer notice on the storefront earlier this month attributed to the Amazon.com Inc. market brand. At the Promenade, located at 100 Promenade Way in Westlake Village, Amazon Fresh will occupy the 31,000-square-foot spot where Bristol Farms had stood for three years until 2019. Prior to Bristol Farms, the storefront hosted a Vintage Grocers. When the Business Journal reached out to both companies and Caruso leasing agent CBRE, none of the parties would comment on the pending lease.

Amazon first debuted the unconventional Amazon Fresh concept nationally in Woodland Hills in August.

Amazon Fresh capitalizes on Amazon Dash Cart, a smart shopping cart system employing sensors and algorithms to identify which items shoppers pick before charging their payment cards directly, bypassing any checkout process. The format is separate from Amazon’s Whole Foods supermarket chain and Amazon Go convenience stores. It was recently announced that more Amazon Fresh stores are coming to North Hollywood and Northridge.
