CNC Code Underpins Acquisition

DP Technology Corp., developer of a manufacturing software, is being acquired by Hexagon AB, a leader in sensor, software and autonomous products.Financial terms of the deal between DP in Camarillo and Hexagon in Nacka Strand, Sweden were not disclosed. The transaction was announced earlier this month.

DP is the developer of the Esprit CAM system, a smart manufacturing software for machining applications. The Esprit system supports any class of computer numerical controlled (CNC) machine via a common interface and workflow. It provides high-performance CNC machine programming, optimization and simulation for a broad range of precision manufacturing applications, according to a release from Hexagon.

Hexagon Chief Executive Ola Rollen called DP Technology an innovator with a strong focus on building smarter, data-driven manufacturing products.

“When combined with our production software portfolio, it cements our market-leading position in (computer-aided manufacturing), particularly around CNC manufacturing processes, and accelerates the development of our smart manufacturing portfolio,” Rollen said in a statement.

Founded in 1982 by Dan Frayssinet and Paul Ricard – the D and the P of the company’s name – the firm employs about 260 people in 27 locations around the world. Additionally, it is served by a network of 130 resellers across 44 countries. The company will become part of Hexagon’s manufacturing intelligence division.Ricard called the acquisition “a natural fit” as manufacturing intelligence is what Esprit is all about.

“Ultimately, their acquisition of Esprit allows us to better serve our customers,” Ricard, the company’s president, said in a statement.

“The global reach of Hexagon will allow us to expand our brand and to accelerate the evolution of our products based on the needs of manufacturers around the world,” added Frayssinet, the chief executive, in a statement.

Don Davies, vice president of the Americas for DP, said that the flagship software always had a strong future, and the acquisition by Hexagon will only strengthen its offerings for resellers, partners and customers.“We recognize that our industry relationships, as well as the quality of our products and services, have been foundational to our success,” Davies said in a statement. “Esprit will continue to offer the best product, the best post processors and the best support and service in (computer-aided manufacturing).”Added Philippe Albert, vice president of international sales and director of European operations for DP: “Esprit partners, resellers and end users can expect a smooth transition and significant synergies that will produce faster growth and greater opportunities.”
