Alabama Hospital to Install Capstone Turbine

Capstone Green Energy Corp. secured an order for a combined heat and power energy system from a major hospital in Alabama.

The Van Nuys microturbine manufacturer expects to commission the system in the spring of next year. The company’s central and southern U.S. distributor, Lone Star Power Solutions, secured the contract.

The Capstone 600 kilowatt microturbine energy system will be fueled by natural gas and be configured to repurpose waste heat the microturbine produces for the hospital’s hot water requirements, the company said in a release.

Darren Jamison, chief executive of Capstone, said that using a Capstone system is an ideal strategy for hospitals.

“When you factor in the cost benefits and environmental factors, you have a complete solution that improves the bottom line, strengthens service delivery and reduces environmental impact,” Jamison said in a statement.

The company announced the sale on Tuesday. Shares of Capstone (CGRN) closed Thursday down 8 cents, or 2 percent, to $3.90 on the Nasdaq, on a day when that market closed up a fraction of a percent.
