Agency to shell out for auto dealer’s expansion

LANCASTER – The City Council, acting Tuesday in its capacity as the Lancaster Redevelopment Agency, voted unanimously and without comment to pay auto dealer Mike Johnson $1.5 million for his promise to expand the Johnson Ford dealership and operate a new Mazda dealership next door. Under the arrangement, Johnson is expected to acquire Antelope Valley Mazda and to operate both dealerships in the Lancaster Auto Mall for no less than 20 years.
