State regulators have fined Thousand Oaks-based Blue Cross of California $1 million after an investigation found the insurer regularly dropped policies on sick or pregnant clients. The Department of Managed Health Care found that the insurer cancel policies on pregnant women and ill clients even if they did not lie on applications about pre-existing conditions, a violation of state laws. The department looked at 90 random policy cancellations. Blue Cross parent company WellPoint Inc. disputes the findings and denies wrongdoing.
