Dumping Charges Dropped Against Valley Firm

ADJ Finishing has been cleared of 16 counts of illegally dumping pollutants into city sewers. All charges against the Panorama City plating company were dismissed last month. “We knew we were right,” said ADJ president Alexander Orantes. “We didn’t do anything. We were not guilty.” In January, Department of Sanitation officials found high levels of nickel, zinc, chromium and copper in the sewer system near the ADJ facility. Orantes said that he would never engage in illegal dumping because “we live in the Valley ourselves.” Had he been found guilty, Orantes faced a year in jail and $250,000 in fines per count. “It’s great that everything turned out okay,” Orantes said. “We’re moving forward to be a better company.”
