Engineers Council to Hand Out Awards

The U.S. Chief of naval operations will be recognized as the “Honorary Engineer of the Year” by the San Fernando Valley Engineer’s Council at its 52nd annual awards banquet. Admiral Michael G. Mullen will be the keynote speaker at the event taking place Feb. 24 at the Sportsman’s Lodge Restaurant Empire Room, 4234 Coldwater Canyon, Studio City. The banquet recognizes outstanding engineers, scientists, engineering educators and leaders in the field. Over 80 awards will be distributed for individual and team achievements in engineering. U.S. Air Force Col. (Ret.) Frank Borman, who flew missions in the Gemini and Apollo space programs, receives the council’s “Brigadier General Charles E. “Chuck” Yeager International Aeronautical Achievements Award” for his lifetime of aeronautical achievements. Thomas Blakely of Lockheed Martin receives the “San Fernando Valley Engineer of the Year Award” and Richard C. Peters, chairperson for the National Society of Professional Engineers Week receives the “William B. Johnson Founders Award.” Tickets for the banquet are $75 and formal attire is required.
